Under £2,000: Formula 1

The Formula 1 is the least expensive way into TAG Heuer. The quartz version is 41mm, water resistant to 200 metres and tough enough for anything. Our pick is the Formula 1 Solargraph: Goldsmiths' description says it uses TAG Heuer's own calibre TH50-00, which runs on light, with a sapphire crystal and 100 metres of water resistance. At 38mm it suits most wrists.

Questions people ask

Is TAG Heuer a good watch brand?
Yes. TAG Heuer has made watches since 1860, its watches are Swiss-made, and most at Goldsmiths come with TAG Heuer's 5-year guarantee. It's best known for sporty chronographs and dive watches, and it's one of the best-value ways into Swiss luxury, especially the Aquaracer Professional 300.
Is TAG Heuer a luxury brand?
Yes, an accessible one. It generally costs more than Tissot and less than Omega. The Formula 1 is one of the least expensive ways to own a Swiss luxury watch new, and the Monaco and Carrera chronographs are serious watches by any standard.
What is the best TAG Heuer to buy?
For most people, the Aquaracer Professional 300: a 300-metre dive watch with a COSC-certified automatic movement and an 80-hour power reserve. If you prefer a dressier look, the Carrera.
Carrera vs Formula 1: what's the difference?
The Formula 1 is TAG Heuer's sporty entry range: mostly quartz or solar, and less expensive. The Carrera is the classic: every Carrera at Goldsmiths is automatic, and it's dressier and costs more. Choose the Formula 1 for a tough everyday watch, the Carrera for a watch to keep for life.
Carrera vs Aquaracer: which should I buy?
The Aquaracer if you swim or want one watch for everything: the Aquaracer Professional 300 is water resistant to 300 metres. The Carrera if you want something smarter for work and evenings.
Can you buy a TAG Heuer for under £1,000?
Not new from Goldsmiths: its least expensive TAG Heuers start at about £1,500. Under £1,000, see our best men's watches under £1,000, where Tissot and Hamilton give you a Swiss watch for less.
Is TAG Heuer a good investment?
We wouldn't buy any watch as an investment, because nobody can promise what it'll be worth later. Buy the TAG Heuer you'll enjoy wearing, keep the box and papers, and service it when TAG Heuer recommends.

How we write these guides: every watch is one you can buy new from a UK authorised retailer. Prices and specifications come from the retailer's own product page, and anything extra comes from the brand's website. We check prices and stock every morning, but they can change, so the retailer's page always has the final word. No brand or retailer pays to appear.
