The best watches under £5,000 in the UK (2026)
Under £5,000 buys a serious Swiss watch: an Omega Master Chronometer, an IWC with five days of power reserve, or a 300-metre TAG Heuer with an 80-hour movement. These are the best watches you can buy new in the UK for under £5,000, and how to choose between them.

We don't sell watches. Links to retailers are affiliate links: if you buy after following one, the retailer may pay us a commission. You pay the same price, and no brand or retailer pays to appear. How this works

- Questions people ask
The best watch under £5,000 for most people is an Omega De Ville Prestige: a Master Chronometer with a 55-hour power reserve and Omega's 5-year guarantee. For a sports watch, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 is the best value, and for the longest power reserve, the IWC Pilot's Watch, which runs for five days.
Every watch here is sold new by Goldsmiths, a UK authorised retailer. Prices are Goldsmiths' own on the date shown and update when we re-check them.
How we chose
We looked at every men's watch from £2,500 to £5,000 at Goldsmiths, more than 400 of them, and picked the best of each type on what you actually get: the movement, the power reserve, water resistance, the guarantee and the name. The facts come from Goldsmiths' and the brands' own descriptions. We earn a commission if you buy through our links, which never changes the price you pay.
What £5,000 buys you over £2,000
Compared with our best watches under £2,000, the extra money buys three things:
- The big names. Omega, IWC and Cartier start here.
- Better movements. Master Chronometer certification from METAS, IWC's in-house calibres and power reserves of three to five days.
- Longer guarantees. 5 years from Omega, TAG Heuer and Longines, and up to 8 years from IWC and Cartier when you register, according to Goldsmiths.
The best watch under £5,000: Omega De Ville Prestige
The De Ville Prestige is one of the least expensive ways to own a mechanical Omega, and it doesn't feel like a compromise. It has the same Master Chronometer calibre 8800 as Omega's Seamaster Diver 300M, which Omega's own page says has a 55-hour power reserve, in a 40mm case with a dark blue dial.
It's a dress watch, water resistant to 30 metres: perfect with a suit or at a wedding, but take it off to swim. If you want an Omega you can swim in, the Railmaster on a strap is water resistant to 150 metres and also under £5,000.

Best dive watch: TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300
The Aquaracer Professional 300 is a proper dive watch: water resistant to 300 metres, with an automatic movement that Goldsmiths says has an 80-hour power reserve, and TAG Heuer's 5-year guarantee. That's more power reserve than many watches costing twice as much.
For bigger and bolder, the Breitling Superocean is 44mm and also water resistant to 300 metres. The Longines Legend Diver is the vintage-style choice, at 39mm.

Longest power reserve: IWC Pilot's Watch
IWC's Pilot's Watches are clean, readable and beautifully made. This 36mm automatic uses IWC's own calibre 32102, which Goldsmiths says has a 120-hour power reserve: take it off on Friday and it's still running on Wednesday. It's water resistant to 100 metres.
At 36mm it suits smaller wrists especially well. IWC watches come with a 2-year guarantee, plus 6 more years when you register with IWC Care, according to Goldsmiths.
Best GMT: Longines Spirit Zulu Time 1925
A GMT shows a second time zone, which is handy if you travel or work with people abroad. Goldsmiths' description of the Spirit Zulu Time 1925 lists a self-winding movement with a silicon balance spring and up to 72 hours of power reserve.

Best chronograph: Longines Conquest Chronograph
A 42mm automatic chronograph, water resistant to 100 metres, with Longines' 5-year guarantee. Longines is the best-value Swiss luxury brand, and this is a lot of watch for the money.
Best dress watch: Cartier Tank Must
The Tank is one of the most famous watch designs in the world, and the Tank Must is the least expensive way to own one. This one is on a steel bracelet, with a quartz movement, so it's ready to wear whenever you pick it up.
Cartier gives 2 years' guarantee, plus 6 more when you register with Cartier Care, according to Goldsmiths. For a hand-wound alternative from Germany, the NOMOS Tangente is a beautifully simple watch with NOMOS's own ring date.
Which should you buy?
- One watch for everything: the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300.
- The best name for the money: the Omega De Ville Prestige.
- If you forget to wear it: the IWC Pilot's Watch, with five days of power reserve.

- For a suit: the Cartier Tank Must.

How we write these guides: every watch is one you can buy new from a UK authorised retailer. Prices and specifications come from the retailer's own product page, and anything extra comes from the brand's website. We check prices and stock every morning, but they can change, so the retailer's page always has the final word. No brand or retailer pays to appear.
