Omega vs TAG Heuer, the short answer: Omega is the more prestigious brand, with METAS-certified Master Chronometer movements. TAG Heuer gives you more watch for your money: in several of the pairs below, the TAG Heuer has a longer power reserve and costs thousands less. Both are Swiss, and both come with a 5-year guarantee at Goldsmiths. Buy the Omega if you want the name and the finish; buy the TAG Heuer if you want the most for your money.

Every watch here is sold new by Goldsmiths, a UK authorised retailer for both brands. Prices are Goldsmiths' own on the date shown, and the facts come from Goldsmiths' and the brands' own descriptions. We earn a commission on both, so we've no reason to favour either.

  • Omega: the Master Chronometer calibre 8800, certified by METAS, with a 55-hour power reserve, according to Goldsmiths' descriptions. Goldsmiths describes the Diver 300M family as James Bond's choice for over 25 years.
  • TAG Heuer: the calibre TH31-00, which Goldsmiths describes as COSC-certified, with an 80-hour power reserve.

The TAG Heuer runs longer and costs much less. The Omega has the bigger name, the stricter certification and the Bond connection. Our pick: the TAG Heuer for value, the Omega if you can afford it and want the name.

Chronographs: Speedmaster Moonwatch vs Carrera Chronograph

Two of the most famous chronographs in the world, built in very different ways.

Prices at Goldsmiths on 28 October 2026. Specifications from Goldsmiths' product pages and the brands' own pages; where they differ, we use the brand's figure.

The Speedmaster Moonwatch is hand-wound: you wind it by the crown every day or two. Goldsmiths' description says it was part of all six Moon landings. The Carrera Chronograph is automatic, with TAG Heuer's Heuer 02 movement and an 80-hour power reserve, and Goldsmiths says the Carrera was born on the racetracks in 1963.

Our pick: the Speedmaster if the Moon story matters to you; the Carrera if you'd rather it wound itself. For the square alternative, see the TAG Heuer Monaco in our best TAG Heuer watches.

Everyday watches: Aqua Terra vs Carrera

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Co-Axial Master Chronometer£5,90041mm stainless steelAutomatic150 m——Stainless steel

Prices at Goldsmiths on 28 October 2026. Specifications from Goldsmiths' product pages and the brands' own pages; where they differ, we use the brand's figure.

The Aqua Terra is water resistant to 150 metres and has the Master Chronometer calibre 8900. The Carrera three-hand is 39mm, with TAG Heuer's calibre 5 and 100 metres of water resistance, for around half the price. Our pick: the Aqua Terra if it's your one luxury watch for life; the Carrera if you want a smart automatic and change in your pocket.

Entry prices: De Ville Prestige vs Formula 1

The least expensive ways into each brand are very different watches. Omega's De Ville Prestige is a dress watch with a Master Chronometer movement. TAG Heuer's Formula 1 Solargraph is a sporty, light-powered watch with a sapphire crystal, for well under £2,000. If your budget is under £3,000, it's TAG Heuer; Omega's men's watches start above that.

Guarantee and buying

Both brands come with a 5-year guarantee at Goldsmiths, both are Swiss-made, and both can be bought online from Goldsmiths and delivered to your door.

How we write these guides: every watch is one you can buy new from a UK authorised retailer. Prices and specifications come from the retailer's own product page, and anything extra comes from the brand's website. We check prices and stock every morning, but they can change, so the retailer's page always has the final word. No brand or retailer pays to appear.
