About Sterling Guild
An independent UK guide to buying a watch or jewellery. Plain-English buying guides, and new watches and jewellery at every price from a UK authorised retailer, with prices checked every morning.
What we do
Choosing a watch online is hard. Retailers describe the same watch in different ways, specifications are scattered across brand websites, and it's rarely clear what the extra money buys. Sterling Guild puts it in one place:
- Buying guides that answer the questions people actually ask, such as the best watch for a budget, or how two brands compare, with a clear pick at the top.
- The same specification table for every watch, so a £200 watch and a £5,000 watch can be compared line by line.
- Jewellery, too: earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings, with jewellery guides on diamonds, gold and gifts.
- Prices checked every morning. We read Goldsmiths' prices, sale prices and stock every day, so what you see here is close to what you'll pay.
Who we are
Sterling Guild is an independent website based in the UK. We're not owned by a retailer, a watch brand or a jewellery brand. No brand or retailer pays to appear in a guide, sees a guide before it's published, or asks us to change one.
Our guides are written by the Sterling Guild team and published under the site's name.
Where our information comes from
- Every watch and piece of jewellery is sold new by a UK authorised retailer: at the moment, Goldsmiths.
- Prices are Goldsmiths' own. We check them every morning, and show the date of the last check. When Goldsmiths has a sale, we show the sale price and the price before. Sales can end without notice, so the retailer's page always has the final word.
- Specifications come from the retailer's product page, and anything extra from the brand's own website. If we can't find a figure, we leave it blank rather than guess.
Our standards
- How we choose watches: what makes a watch one of our picks, and what rules one out.
- Editorial policy and corrections: how guides are written, checked and kept up to date, and what happens when we get something wrong.
- Affiliate disclosure: how we're paid, and what that does and doesn't change.
