Editorial policy and corrections

How our guides are written, checked and kept up to date, and what we do when we get something wrong.

Our independence

  • No brand or retailer pays to appear in a guide, or to be placed higher in one.
  • No brand or retailer sees a guide before it's published, or asks us to change one.
  • We don't accept free watches or jewellery in return for coverage. If that ever changes, the guide will say so.
  • We're paid through affiliate links, which is explained in full in our affiliate disclosure.

How a guide is written

  1. We start from a real question, such as the best watch for a budget, which diamond earrings to buy, or how two brands compare, and look at what people search for when they ask it.
  2. We compare the watches or jewellery that fit, using the checks on our how we choose page.
  3. We check every fact against its source: the retailer's product page for prices and specifications, and the brand's own website for anything else. Figures we can't confirm are left out, not guessed.
  4. We check every link before publishing, so each watch and piece of jewellery leads to the right product.

Keeping guides current

  • Prices and stock are checked every morning, and the prices shown in guides come from that check.
  • When a pick sells out, we replace it and update the guide.
  • The "Updated" date at the top of a guide changes when the guide's content changes: a new pick, new information or a correction. It doesn't change just because a price moved overnight.

Corrections

We work hard to get things right, and we want to hear when we don't. If you spot a mistake (a price, a specification, a name or anything else), email contact@sterlingguild.co.uk with the page and what's wrong. We'll:

  • check it against the retailer's and brand's own information;
  • fix it as soon as it's confirmed;
  • if the correction changes one of our recommendations, say so in the guide.

We aim to reply within two working days.

Prices and offers

Prices can change at any time, and sales can end without notice. We show the date of each price, and the retailer's page always has the final word. We only mention discount codes or offers the retailer has published itself.
