How Sterling Guild is paid: why you pay the same price, and what commission does and doesn't change about our picks.

How we're paid

Sterling Guild is free to use. We don't sell watches or jewellery; we link to retailers who do. Many of those links are affiliate links: if you follow one and then buy, the retailer may pay us a commission, a share of what you spend.

You pay exactly the same price whether you use our link or go to the retailer directly.

Who pays us

At the moment every watch and every piece of jewellery on the site links to Goldsmiths, a UK authorised retailer. Goldsmiths' affiliate programme is run by Awin, an affiliate network: our links go through Awin, which records that you came from us, and then on to Goldsmiths' website.

Goldsmiths doesn't pay commission on every brand, or on every way of paying. Rolex, Tudor, Grand Seiko, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, TAG Heuer Connected and other smartwatches earn us nothing. In jewellery, the only exception is lab-grown diamonds, which we don't list. Orders paid with interest-free credit or gift cards earn us nothing either.

What commission does and doesn't change

  • It decides which brands we feature as picks. We don't feature brands that pay us nothing. Where one of them is a fair comparison, a guide still mentions it, and says plainly why it isn't one of our picks.
  • It doesn't decide which watch or piece of jewellery we pick. Among the brands we feature, the commission is a share of the price whichever one you choose, so it doesn't make one a pick over another. Our how we choose page sets out what does.
  • No brand or retailer pays to be included, sees a guide before it's published, or asks us to change one. Our editorial policy has more.

Where our information comes from

  • Every watch and piece of jewellery in our guides is one you can buy new from a UK authorised retailer.
  • Prices and stock are checked every morning, and specifications come from the retailer's own product page, with anything extra from the brand's own website.

Where you'll see this

Every guide says near the top that its links are affiliate links, and every watch and jewellery page says so next to its button to the retailer, with a link to this page. Affiliate links are also marked in the page's code ("sponsored") so search engines know.
