Which Omega Seamaster to buy: Diver 300M vs Aqua Terra vs Planet Ocean, by budget (2026)

The Seamaster isn't one watch but a family: the Diver 300M, the Aqua Terra, the Planet Ocean, the Seamaster 300 and the Railmaster. This is how they differ, which one to buy at each budget, and how each one actually wears, using Omega's own case measurements.

  11. Questions people ask

For most people, the best Omega Seamaster is the Diver 300M: Omega's classic dive watch, 42mm, water resistant to 300 metres, with the Master Chronometer calibre 8800. Under £5,000, the Railmaster. For an everyday watch that's slimmer and dressier, the Aqua Terra.

Every watch here is sold new by Goldsmiths, a UK authorised Omega retailer. Prices are Goldsmiths' own on the date shown.

How we chose

We went through all of the Seamasters Goldsmiths has in stock, around 150 of them, and read Omega's own product pages for the case measurements: diameter, thickness and lug-to-lug (the length from tip to tip, which decides how big a watch looks on your wrist). Then we picked the best Seamaster at each budget. We earn a commission if you buy through our links, which never changes the price you pay. For Omega's other collections, including the Speedmaster, see our best Omega watches.

Measurements are Omega's own, from its product pages. Prices are Goldsmiths' for the version shown; the Railmaster is on a strap and the Diver 300M on rubber, the least expensive way to buy each.

  • Diver 300M: the classic. Goldsmiths' description says it was first released in 1993 and has been the James Bond watch for over 25 years.
  • Aqua Terra: the everyday Seamaster, with no rotating bezel. Goldsmiths' description calls it "a tribute to Omega's rich maritime heritage", inspired by luxury sailboats.
  • Seamaster 300 and Railmaster: modern watches based on 1957 originals, with a vintage look.
  • Planet Ocean: the heavy-duty diver, water resistant to 600 metres.

Almost every Seamaster here is a Master Chronometer, certified by METAS for accuracy and resistance to magnetism: our best Omega watches explains what that means.

The best Omega Seamaster overall: Diver 300M

If you're buying one Seamaster, make it this one. Goldsmiths' description lists a 42mm stainless steel case with a blue ceramic bezel and dial, and the calibre 8800 movement; Omega gives a power reserve of 55 hours, a thickness of 13.56mm and a lug-to-lug of 49.9mm. It's water resistant to 300 metres, so it's a real dive watch.

The best Omega Seamaster under £5,000: Railmaster

The least expensive men's automatic Seamaster at Goldsmiths when we checked. According to Goldsmiths' description, the original Railmaster was launched in 1957 for professionals working on the railways, and today's calibre 8806 resists magnetism up to 15,000 gauss; you can see it through the sapphire case back. Omega gives the 38mm case a thickness of 12.36mm and a lug-to-lug of just 44.92mm, so it's one of the best Omegas for smaller wrists. It uses the calibre 8806 with a 55-hour power reserve, according to Omega.

The best Omega Seamaster under £6,000

Diver 300M on rubber. At the time we checked, the Diver 300M on its rubber strap was under £6,000, and it's our pick at this budget (see above).

Aqua Terra, 38mm or 41mm. The everyday Seamaster. Goldsmiths' description mentions a new symmetrical case design and Master Chronometer movements "with extraordinary levels of magnetic resistance". The 38mm uses the calibre 8800; the 41mm the calibre 8900, with a 60-hour power reserve according to Omega. On a rubber strap, both were under £6,000 when we checked.

The best everyday Seamaster: Aqua Terra, 41mm

Goldsmiths' description lists a 41mm stainless steel case, a sun-brushed "Summer Blue" dial with a gradient finish, 150 metres of water resistance and METAS Master Chronometer certification. Omega gives it a thickness of 13.2mm and a lug-to-lug of 47.9mm, so it wears slightly smaller than the Diver.

Questions people ask

Which Omega Seamaster should I buy?
For most people, the Diver 300M: it's the classic Seamaster, water resistant to 300 metres, and it works with almost anything. If you want something slimmer and dressier for every day, the Aqua Terra. If you'd rather have a vintage look, the Seamaster 300.
What is the best Omega Seamaster under £5,000?
The Railmaster on a strap, the least expensive men's automatic Seamaster at Goldsmiths when we checked. For women, the 28mm quartz Aqua Terra costs less still.
What is the best Omega Seamaster under £7,000?
The Diver 300M fits comfortably, and so do the Aqua Terra, the Seamaster 300 and the 39.5mm Planet Ocean. Our pick is still the Diver 300M on its steel bracelet.
Seamaster Diver 300M or Aqua Terra?
The Diver 300M is a dive watch, with a rotating ceramic bezel and 300 metres of water resistance. The Aqua Terra has no rotating bezel and is water resistant to 150 metres, which is still plenty for swimming; it's slimmer and easier to wear with a shirt. Choose the Diver for sport and the Aqua Terra for everyday elegance.
Diver 300M or Planet Ocean?
The Planet Ocean is the heavy-duty diver, water resistant to 600 metres; the Diver 300M is the more versatile everyday watch. Omega gives the 39.5mm Planet Ocean a thickness of 14.21mm, against 13.56mm for the Diver 300M.
Is the Aqua Terra a Seamaster?
Yes. Its full name is the Seamaster Aqua Terra: it's the dressier, everyday member of the Seamaster family.
Which Seamaster does James Bond wear?
The Diver 300M. Goldsmiths' description says it has been the James Bond watch for over 25 years, and Goldsmiths sells the titanium edition from No Time to Die.
Omega Seamaster or Rolex Submariner?
The Diver 300M does the same job for much less, and it's easier to buy. See our full comparison in Omega vs Rolex.
Seamaster or Speedmaster?
The Seamaster is the dive watch family; the Speedmaster is the Moonwatch chronograph, hand-wound and water resistant to 50 metres. Both are in our best Omega watches.
