Omega vs Rolex: which is better? An honest comparison (2026)
Omega or Rolex? We've put them side by side, model for model, with each brand's own UK prices and specs: Submariner against Seamaster, Daytona against Speedmaster, Datejust against Aqua Terra. Here's what you actually get for the money, and which we'd buy.

We don't sell watches. Links to retailers are affiliate links: if you buy after following one, the retailer may pay us a commission. You pay the same price, and no brand or retailer pays to appear. How this works

Omega vs Rolex, the short answer: model for model, Omega costs less, comes with a 5-year guarantee and Master Chronometer movements certified for accuracy and magnetism, and you can buy it online today. Rolex has longer power reserves and the most famous name in watches. If you want the best watch for the money, buy the Omega. If you want a Rolex, nothing else will do, and that's fine too.
We compared each brand's best-known models using Rolex's own UK prices and specs from rolex.com (read on 19 October 2026) and Omega's prices at Goldsmiths, a UK authorised Omega retailer. We earn a commission on the Omegas through our links, and nothing on Rolex. That's why we've stuck to facts both brands publish.

Submariner vs Seamaster Diver 300M
This is the big one. Both are steel dive watches with ceramic bezels and are worn everywhere, from boardrooms to beaches.
- Price: the Submariner was £8,450 on rolex.com. The Diver 300M is £5,900 at Goldsmiths.
- Movement: Rolex lists the Submariner's calibre 3230 at about 70 hours of power reserve. The Omega's calibre 8800 is a Master Chronometer with a 55-hour power reserve, according to Goldsmiths' descriptions.
- Water resistance: the Omega is water resistant to 300 metres.
- Looks: the Submariner is the plainer, more classic design; the Diver 300M has Omega's wave-pattern dial, and Goldsmiths describes the Diver 300M family as James Bond's choice for over 25 years.
The Rolex runs longer between wears. The Omega gives you more for the money, and you can have it delivered this week. For more dive watches in the same style, see our Rolex alternatives.

Daytona vs Speedmaster Moonwatch
The two most famous chronographs in the world, and the biggest price gap.
The Daytona was £14,050 on rolex.com, with Rolex's automatic calibre 4131 and about 72 hours of power reserve. The Speedmaster Moonwatch is £6,600. It's hand-wound rather than automatic, and Goldsmiths' description says it was part of all six Moon landings. If the story matters to you, there's no contest. If you want a chronograph that winds itself, the Daytona does, and so do Omega's automatic Speedmasters.
Datejust vs Aqua Terra
Both are everyday watches with a date, smart enough for a suit.
The Datejust 41 was £7,450 on rolex.com, with the calibre 3235 and about 70 hours of power reserve. The 41mm Aqua Terra is £5,900, with Omega's Master Chronometer calibre 8900 and 150 metres of water resistance. The Rolex has the longer power reserve; the Omega costs less and is Master Chronometer certified.
Explorer vs Railmaster
Two plain, readable watches with big numerals.
The Explorer 40 was £6,950 on rolex.com, with the calibre 3230. The Railmaster is £5,200. It was first made in 1957 for railway workers, and Goldsmiths' description says its calibre 8806 resists magnetism up to 15,000 gauss. At 38mm it's a little smaller than the Explorer 40, which suits slimmer wrists.
Price: why Rolex costs more
Model for model, every Rolex above costs more than its Omega equivalent, and the Daytona costs about twice as much as the Speedmaster Moonwatch. Some of that is the movement: Rolex's longer power reserves are real. A lot of it is the name and the demand for it. If the name is what you want, nothing else will do. If you want the best watch for the money, it's hard to beat Omega.

Omega vs Rolex vs Breitling, TAG Heuer and Cartier
People often add a third brand to the comparison. In short:
- Breitling: big, bold sports watches for less. The Superocean is a 300-metre automatic diver for £4,550.
- TAG Heuer: the best value of the four. The Aquaracer Professional 300 has an 80-hour movement and a 5-year guarantee for £3,650.
- Cartier: the dressier choice. The Santos de Cartier is £7,250.

How we write these guides: every watch is one you can buy new from a UK authorised retailer. Prices and specifications come from the retailer's own product page, and anything extra comes from the brand's website. We check prices and stock every morning, but they can change, so the retailer's page always has the final word. No brand or retailer pays to appear.
