Longines Spirit vs Conquest: which should you buy? (2026)
The Spirit and the Conquest are Longines' two best-selling everyday automatics, at similar prices, with the same 72-hour power reserve and 100 metres of water resistance. The differences are in the details: certification, thickness, sizes and style. This is which to buy, using Longines' own figures.

The short answer: buy the Spirit if you want a COSC-certified chronometer with a pilot's-watch look; buy the Conquest if you want a slimmer everyday watch for a little less. Both have a 72-hour power reserve, 100 metres of water resistance and a 5-year warranty, according to Longines.
Every watch here is sold new by Goldsmiths, a UK authorised Longines retailer. Prices are Goldsmiths' own on the date shown.

Figures are Longines' own, from its UK product pages; a blank means Longines' page doesn't describe it as chronometer-certified. All are water resistant to 100 metres, according to Longines. Prices are Goldsmiths' for the version shown, on a steel bracelet.
What's the difference?
Certification. The Spirit's L888.4 is certified as a chronometer by the COSC, the Swiss testing body, according to Longines. Longines' pages for the Conquest don't describe it as certified. Both use a silicon balance spring and have a 72-hour power reserve, so in everyday use the difference is small.
Thickness. The Conquest is noticeably slimmer: Longines gives the 41mm as 10.9mm thick, against 12.2mm for the 40mm Spirit. It slides under a shirt cuff more easily.
Style. Goldsmiths' description calls the Spirit "a pilot watch with contemporary sophistication" and a tribute to the pioneers who left their mark on the world. The Conquest is a cleaner everyday sports watch; Goldsmiths says the collection dates back to 1954.
Sizes. The Spirit comes in 37mm and 40mm (and 39mm for the Pilot and Zulu Time). The automatic Conquest comes in 30mm, 34mm and 41mm. Goldsmiths' 38mm Conquest is quartz, which matters if you're searching for "Spirit 37 vs Conquest 38".
Price. The Conquest costs a little less: when we checked, Goldsmiths' 41mm Conquest was £1,900 and the 40mm Spirit £2,150.
The best Spirit: 40mm
A COSC-certified chronometer with a 72-hour power reserve and a silicon balance spring, water resistant to 100 metres, according to Longines, with a 5-year warranty. At 49.7mm lug-to-lug, it wears its full size.
37mm, for smaller wrists. The same movement in a 37mm case, 11.7mm thick with a 44.8mm lug-to-lug, according to Longines: a much shorter watch on the wrist.
Spirit Pilot, 39mm. A more pilot-style dial, with the same L888.4 chronometer, 11.5mm thick, according to Longines.

How we write these guides: every watch is one you can buy new from a UK authorised retailer. Prices and specifications come from the retailer's own product page, and anything extra comes from the brand's website. We check prices and stock every morning, but they can change, so the retailer's page always has the final word. No brand or retailer pays to appear.
