The best watches for small wrists in the UK (2026), for men and women

If most watches hang over the edges of your wrist, the case size alone won't tell you what will fit. These are the best watches for small wrists you can buy new in the UK, chosen using the measurement that matters most: lug to lug.

The best watch for a small wrist, for most men, is the Seiko 5 Sports SNXS: a 37.4mm automatic that measures just 44.7mm from lug to lug, for well under £500. If you'd like a Swiss watch, the Tissot PRX 35mm is slim and neat. The slimmest is the Hamilton Khaki Field Quartz, at 8.3mm thick. For women, our picks are the Tissot PRX 25mm and the Certina DS-2 Lady.

Most watch guides list case size, but on a small wrist the more useful number is lug to lug: the length from the tip of the top lugs to the tip of the bottom lugs. If it's longer than the top of your wrist is wide, the watch overhangs, whatever its diameter. So for every watch below, we give the lug-to-lug length where the brand publishes it.

All the watches below are sold new by Goldsmiths, a UK authorised retailer. Prices are Goldsmiths' own on the date shown, and they update when we re-check them.

How we chose

Every watch had to be 39mm or smaller and sold new by a UK authorised retailer. We read each brand's own product page for the lug-to-lug length and thickness, and favoured watches with a short lug to lug, a slim case and a sapphire crystal. Where a brand doesn't publish the lug-to-lug length (or its site can't be read), we say so.

What size watch should you get for a small wrist?

First, measure the top of your wrist: lay a ruler across it, where you wear your watch, and note the flat width from edge to edge. A watch whose lug-to-lug length is no longer than that will sit on your wrist without overhanging. If you only know the distance around your wrist, this table is a rough starting point (our rule of thumb, not a law: case shape and how flat your wrist is matter too).

Wrist, all the way round Case size most people find comfortable Lug to lug
Under 15cm (5.9 inches) 30 to 36mm about 43mm or less
15 to 16.5cm (5.9 to 6.5 inches) 34 to 38mm about 48mm or less
16.5 to 17.5cm (6.5 to 6.9 inches) 36 to 40mm about 51mm or less

Enter your wrist size in our watch size calculator to see the watches in stock in your size.

Two more things help a watch suit a small wrist: a slim case (under about 11mm sits closer to the wrist and slips under a cuff) and lugs that curve down towards the wrist.

Best overall: Seiko 5 Sports SNXS

Seiko 5 Sports SNXS
Best overallSeiko 5 Sports SNXS SRPL57K1 · 37.4mm · Automatic · 100 m water resistant £360Price at Goldsmiths, 28 October 2026 Full specsSee it at Goldsmiths

This is the watch we'd suggest to most men with small wrists. Seiko gives its case as 37.4mm across, 44.7mm lug to lug and 12.5mm thick, so it sits neatly on a small wrist. Inside is Seiko's 4R36 automatic movement (about 41 hours of power reserve) with a day and date.

Good to know: the crystal is Hardlex, Seiko's hardened mineral glass, which scratches more easily than sapphire. Seiko rates the 4R36 at -35 to +45 seconds a day, so it's less accurate than a quartz watch. If you prefer a sportier look, the Seiko 5 Sports SKX "Street Denim" (£310) has the same movement in a 38mm case that's even shorter, at 44.2mm lug to lug (Seiko's figures).

Best Swiss: Tissot PRX 35mm

Tissot PRX
Best SwissTissot PRX T1372101108100 · 35mm · Quartz · 100 m water resistant £335Price at Goldsmiths, 28 October 2026 Full specsSee it at Goldsmiths

The PRX has a built-in bracelet and a 1970s shape, and the 35mm version suits small wrists far better than the 40mm. Tissot's page lists a Swiss quartz movement, a sapphire crystal, a date, 100 metres of water resistance and a slim 9.6mm case.

Good to know: Tissot doesn't publish a lug-to-lug length for the PRX. Because the bracelet joins the case directly, its fit depends mostly on the first links. It's also available as an automatic, the PRX Powermatic 80 35mm (£640), which is 10.93mm thick with an 80-hour power reserve (Tissot's figures).

Best slim: Hamilton Khaki Field Quartz 38mm

Hamilton Khaki Field Quartz
Best slimHamilton Khaki Field Quartz H69401930 · 38mm · Quartz · 50 m water resistant £375Price at Goldsmiths, 28 October 2026 Full specsSee it at Goldsmiths

A classic field watch with clear numbers and a sapphire crystal, and one of the slimmest watches in this guide: Hamilton gives it as 8.3mm thick, with a 46mm lug to lug. It slides under a shirt cuff and is light on the wrist.

Good to know: water resistance is 50 metres (Hamilton's figure), so it's fine for rain and hand-washing but not for swimming. The mechanical version, the Khaki Field Mechanical (£545), is the same 38mm size, 9.5mm thick and 47mm lug to lug, with an 80-hour hand-wound movement.

Best luxury: Omega Railmaster 38mm

Omega Seamaster Railmaster

If your budget stretches this far, the Railmaster is one of the most wearable luxury watches for a small wrist: 38mm across, with a plain, readable dial. Goldsmiths' description says Omega's Railmaster calibre resists magnetism up to 15,000 gauss, and it's water resistant to 150 metres, with Omega's 5-year guarantee.

Good to know: Goldsmiths doesn't publish its lug-to-lug length or thickness, so try it on if you can before you buy.

Best automatic under £300: Citizen Tsuyosa 37mm

Citizen Tsuyosa Automatic
Citizen Tsuyosa Automatic NJ0200-50L · 37mm · Automatic · 50 m water resistant £299Price at Goldsmiths, 28 October 2026 Full specsSee it at Goldsmiths

The 37mm Tsuyosa has a sapphire crystal, a date and a built-in bracelet. Citizen gives its thickness as 12mm and its power reserve as 42 hours. Goldsmiths lists a five-year guarantee.

Good to know: Citizen's spec table says 5 bar (50 metres) of water resistance, although Goldsmiths' table says 100 metres; we use Citizen's figure. Citizen doesn't publish the lug-to-lug length.

Best for very small wrists: Accurist Origin 34mm

Accurist Origin Bicolour White Dial 70025 · 34mm · Automatic · 100 m water resistant £199Price at Goldsmiths, 28 October 2026 Full specsSee it at Goldsmiths

One of the very few automatics this small: 34mm across, on a steel bracelet, with 100 metres of water resistance. Goldsmiths lists it as a women's watch, but at 34mm it suits any slim wrist, men's or women's. It's two-tone, steel and gold-coloured, with a white dial.

Good to know: Goldsmiths doesn't give its lug-to-lug length or thickness.

A simple, elegant Swiss watch at 34mm and just 8.25mm thick (Tissot's figures), with a sapphire crystal and 100 metres of water resistance, on a steel bracelet. Goldsmiths lists it as unisex.

Timex Q Timex 1978 Day-Date TW2W44700 · 37.5mm · Quartz · 50 m water resistant £170Price at Goldsmiths, 28 October 2026 Full specsSee it at Goldsmiths

A 37.5mm reissue of a 1970s Timex, with a day and date, a green dial and a domed acrylic crystal, on a leather strap. Timex gives the case height as 13mm and says it's suitable for light swimming (50 metres).

Good to know: at 13mm it's taller than its size suggests, partly because of the domed crystal.

Best for adventure: Seiko Prospex Alpinist 38mm

Seiko Prospex Alpinist
Seiko Prospex Alpinist SPB155J1 · 38mm · Automatic · 200 m water resistant £670Price at Goldsmiths, 28 October 2026 Full specsSee it at Goldsmiths

A tough automatic field watch that's sized for smaller wrists: Seiko's page gives 38mm across and 46mm lug to lug, with a curved sapphire crystal, 200 metres of water resistance and the 6R35 movement with about 70 hours of power reserve.

Good to know: it's 12.9mm thick, so it won't slide under a tight cuff.

Best small dive watch: Certina DS Action Diver 38mm

Most dive watches are 42mm or more. This Swiss automatic diver is 38mm, rated to 300 metres according to Goldsmiths. We couldn't read Certina's own page, so we don't know its lug-to-lug length or thickness. See our dive watch guide for more.

Small luxury watches for men

  • Longines Conquest 34mm (£2,000): a 34mm automatic with a 72-hour power reserve and 100 metres of water resistance, according to Goldsmiths. Small enough for a slim wrist, men's or women's.
  • Longines Legend Diver 39mm (£2,850): a vintage-style diver with up to 72 hours of power reserve and 300 metres of water resistance, according to Goldsmiths.
  • Omega Railmaster 38mm (£4,800): our luxury pick above.

These details are from Goldsmiths, which doesn't give the lug-to-lug length for these models.

Why a 40mm watch can fit better than a 39mm one

Case size is measured across the dial, but it's the length from top to bottom that decides whether a watch overhangs. Two Seikos show this well (Seiko's own figures):

Watch Case size Lug to lug
Seiko 5 Sports SKX "Street Denim" 38mm 44.2mm
Seiko 5 Sports SKX 40mm 44.6mm
Seiko 5 Sports SNXS 37.4mm 44.7mm
Seiko 5 Sports Flieger 39.4mm 48.1mm
Seiko 5 Sports Field GMT 39.4mm 47.9mm

The 40mm SKX is about 3.5mm shorter from top to bottom than the 39.4mm Flieger, so on a small wrist it will usually fit better. If a watch you like is listed only by case size, look for its lug-to-lug length on the brand's site, or measure one in a shop.

Tips for wearing a watch on a small wrist

  • Get the bracelet sized properly. A loose bracelet makes any watch look bigger as it slides around. Goldsmiths and most jewellers can remove links.
  • Try a strap. A leather or fabric strap curves around the wrist more closely than a stiff bracelet. Many watches here have quick-release straps that are easy to change.
  • Mind the thickness. A slim watch sits closer to the wrist and looks smaller than a thick one of the same size.
  • Lighter colours look larger. A white or silver dial tends to look bigger than a black one of the same size.

Questions people ask

What is the best watch for a small wrist?
For most men, the Seiko 5 Sports SNXS: a 37.4mm automatic with a short 44.7mm lug-to-lug length, for well under £500. For a Swiss watch, the 35mm Tissot PRX. For women with small wrists, the 25mm Tissot PRX or the 28mm Certina DS-2 Lady.
What size watch should I get for a small wrist?
Look at the lug-to-lug length first, then the case size. The lugs (where the strap joins the case) shouldn't overhang the top of your wrist. As a rough guide, for a wrist of about 15 to 16.5cm (6 to 6.5 inches) around, most men find a case of 34 to 38mm and a lug to lug under about 48mm comfortable. Our watch size calculator works it out from your wrist measurement.
Is 40mm too big for a small wrist?
Not always. It depends more on the lug-to-lug length and the case shape. Seiko's 40mm 5 Sports SKX measures 44.6mm lug to lug, which is shorter than the 39.4mm Seiko 5 Sports Flieger at 48.1mm (Seiko's figures). So the 40mm watch can fit a small wrist better.
Is 38mm too small for a man?
No. Size is personal, and plenty of men's watches are 36 to 38mm, including Hamilton's Khaki Field and Omega's Railmaster, both 38mm. A smaller watch looks neat and in proportion on most wrists, and fits under a shirt cuff more easily.
What does lug to lug mean?
Lug to lug is the length of the watch from the tip of the top lugs to the tip of the bottom lugs, measured straight across. It tells you how much of your wrist the watch covers from top to bottom, so it's the best single measure of whether a watch will fit.
What is the best luxury watch for a small wrist?
The Omega Railmaster 38mm, or for less, the Longines Conquest 34mm: an automatic with a 72-hour power reserve and 100 metres of water resistance, according to Goldsmiths.
What size watch for a 6 inch wrist?
A 6-inch (about 15cm) wrist suits a case of around 34 to 38mm, with a lug to lug of about 44mm or less, for most people. Watches here that fit that: the Seiko 5 Sports SNXS (44.7mm lug to lug). For a smaller look, try the Tissot PRX 35mm, Tissot Ballade 34mm or Accurist Origin 34mm, although their makers don't publish a lug-to-lug length.

How we write these guides: every watch is one you can buy new from a UK authorised retailer. Prices and specifications come from the retailer's own product page, and anything extra comes from the brand's website. We check prices and stock every morning, but they can change, so the retailer's page always has the final word. No brand or retailer pays to appear.
