Questions people ask

What is the best Seiko watch for men?
The Prospex Alpinist: Seiko's 6R55 automatic with a 72-hour power reserve, a sapphire crystal and 200 metres of water resistance, in a 39.5mm case that suits most wrists. For less, a Seiko 5 Sports; for a dress watch, the Presage Cocktail Time.
What is the best Seiko under £500?
For everyday wear, the Prospex Turtle, an automatic diver water resistant to 200 metres. For a dress watch, the Presage Cocktail Time; for travel, the Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT. All three were under £500 at Goldsmiths when we checked.
What is the best Seiko under £1,000?
The Prospex Alpinist, our pick of every Seiko: a 72-hour automatic and a sapphire crystal for under £1,000 when we checked.
What is the best Seiko watch for women?
The Presage Cocktail Time Clover Club, a 30.3mm automatic on a steel bracelet, or the 33.8mm Cocktail Time in pink. See which Seiko Presage to buy for every size.
Is Seiko a good watch brand?
Yes, one of the best-value watch brands there is. Seiko makes its own automatic movements, and it launched Japan's first diver's watch in 1965, according to Goldsmiths. A Seiko 5 Sports gives you an automatic for under £400.
Is Seiko a luxury brand?
Mostly not: Seiko is about great watches at fair prices. Its most expensive lines, like the Prospex 1965 Heritage and King Seiko, are close to luxury. Grand Seiko is a separate, more expensive brand; we don't feature it because Goldsmiths pays us nothing on it.
Is Seiko Japanese?
Yes. Goldsmiths' descriptions call Seiko a Japanese watch brand, and say it began as a Tokyo clock and watch repair shop in 1881.
Seiko 5 vs Presage vs Prospex: what's the difference?
Seiko 5 Sports is the affordable, everyday automatic range. Presage is the dressy range, with dials inspired by Japanese craft and culture. Prospex is Seiko's professional range of dive, field and mountain watches, like the Alpinist.
Is Seiko better than Citizen?
For automatics, Seiko: it has far more choice. For a watch you never have to wind or change a battery in, Citizen: most Citizen Eco-Drive watches charge from any light. See our best solar watches.
Tissot PRX vs Seiko 5: which should I buy?
The Seiko 5 Sports is the cheaper way to get an automatic. The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 costs more, but it's Swiss and has an 80-hour power reserve, about twice the Seiko 5's. See our best Tissot watches.
What is the best Seiko dive watch?
The Prospex Turtle for value, water resistant to 200 metres. With more to spend, the Prospex 1965 Heritage is water resistant to 300 metres and has a 72-hour power reserve.

How we write these guides: every watch is one you can buy new from a UK authorised retailer.
