The Happy Sport: what makes it special

Goldsmiths' description, in Chopard's words, says the Happy Sport has captured the imagination since 1993, when Chopard became "the first Maison to combine steel and diamonds". Its free-spinning diamonds sit between two sapphire crystals, so they dance across the dial whenever you move.

Another Goldsmiths description calls the collection designed "for the modern free-spirited man or woman": as at home on a tennis court as at dinner.

A 30mm stainless steel case and bracelet with a "forest green" dial, silvered hands and three diamonds that move freely across the face, according to Goldsmiths. It's water resistant to 3 bar (30 metres), so keep it out of the pool.

Questions people ask

How much is a Chopard watch in the UK?
At Goldsmiths, Chopard starts at just under £5,000 for a 30mm quartz Happy Sport on a strap, when we checked. Automatic Happy Sports start at around £6,500, the men's Mille Miglia chronograph at around £8,500, and Happy Sports in 18ct gold go well beyond £10,000. Prices on this page update every morning.
How do the diamonds move in a Chopard Happy Sport?
They aren't fixed to the dial. According to Chopard's words in Goldsmiths' description, the Happy Sport's "free-spinning gems" dance between two sapphire crystals, so they move whenever you move your wrist.
Is Chopard a good watch brand?
Yes. It's a luxury brand with its own movements: Goldsmiths' descriptions refer to Chopard's own calibre 09 in the automatic Happy Sport and to its in-house mechanical work in the Mille Miglia. Goldsmiths also lists a guarantee of 2 years, plus 3 more if you register the watch with Chopard online.
Is Chopard a luxury brand?
Yes. Its watches start at about £5,000 at Goldsmiths and go well beyond £15,000 in gold, alongside names like Cartier. See our best luxury watches for women.
Chopard Happy Sport quartz or automatic?
The quartz is less expensive and never needs winding. The automatic uses Chopard's own calibre 09, according to Goldsmiths, with a 42-hour power reserve where Goldsmiths lists it, and often a guilloché centre to the dial. If you'll wear it every day and like the idea of a mechanical watch, choose the automatic.
Can you swim in a Chopard Happy Sport?
Most Happy Sports are water resistant to 3 bar (30 metres), according to Goldsmiths, which means they cope with splashes and rain, not swimming. Take it off before you get in the pool.
Does Chopard make men's watches?
Yes: the Mille Miglia. Goldsmiths' description says Chopard has been the official timekeeper of the 1000 Miglia classic car race for over 35 years, and the Mille Miglia watches are its racing-inspired chronographs, like the 40.5mm Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph.
